What is CEFR?

The CEFR divides English proficiency into six clear levels:
1. A1–A2 (Basic User)
2. B1–B2 (Independent User)
3. C1–C2 (Proficient User)

Each level describes what learners can do in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This helps us create a clear roadmap for your progress — and ensures our teaching matches global standards used by universities, employers, and exam boards around the world.

How We Use CEFR at Saxons

1. Placement Testing: New learners take a placement test to determine their CEFR level and join the right course.
2. Customized Lessons: Each lesson is designed to help you achieve specific “can-do” statements for your level.
3. Progress Tracking: Our instructors monitor your development based on CEFR descriptors to ensure you’re moving forward confidently.
4. Certification and Statement of Results: Upon completion, students receive a certificate and Statement of Results.
